New Beginnings

This summer has brought about a great deal of consideration of how to use more technology in the classroom.  I’ve spent hours doing research on websites searching the best apps and best practices for young students.  So far, I have found two things that are sparking my interest.

The first is an app called Nearpod.  Nearpod is an iPad app that can incorporate what I am displaying on the computer, and thus the Promethean Board (smart board), and what students see on their iPad using interactive lessons.  I can build my own lessons or there are several pre-made lessons from early childhood to high school.  Students can respond on their device and I can see just what they are understanding.  It can be used as an assessment tool as well.  Visit the website and take a look. http://www.nearpod.com/

The second great thing I am planning on trying is the use of QR codes in lessons.  Many of us see QR codes on a daily basis.  QR stands for quick response.  Where else but a classroom is there a need for quick responses.  Usually they come from us as teachers or students.  However, from some of the lessons I have been looking at, why not use the QR codes for students to find their own answers.

Perhaps you want them to see if they solved a math problem correctly.  The QR code can be attached to their worksheet, or placed on the board.  When they solve the problem, they can simply go to the QR code with an iPod, iPad, or even take the code to the computer, providing it has a camera and they can scan it and see for themselves if their answer is correct.

Other suggested activities is to link the QR  codes to a website that you want them to see or hear a video or storybook read.  There are many pre-made activities on http://www.teacherspayteachers.com of which I have taken advantage of so that I don’t have to build a lot of my own lessons.

Learning to Blog…

ImageBeing new to this, many of my friends are wondering what in the world is she trying to accomplish?  Well…my goal is to have my own site to house everything I need to organize my kindergarten life.  My favorite resources, websites, as well as gain knowledge and suggestions from other teachers.  It will take time for me to learn the technology so bear with me.

classroomlabels      This year is about making my life easier.  I am using classroom labels more than ever.  Here are a few if you would like to use some too.
